Circular Meadow-Topped Homes

A beautiful circular villa adorns the vast green landscape and seaside of Japan’s Ishigaki Island. The structure, complete with a meadow roof, is the work of Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto who strives to bring modern architecture together with natural inspirations. The circular villa is reminiscent of much of the architect‘s work, including a circular community center that was proposed recently.

The meadow roof is perforated by large circular openings that allow light to enter the building and reveal the breathtaking scenery. In addition, Sou Fujimoto has made the building’s roof walkable in a bid to encourage visitors to feel “connected to the earth.” This architectural venture was commissioned by hotelier Not A Hotel and it can host upwards of 10 people.
